Cannonball Adderley described jazz singer Teri Thornton (1934-2000) as the greatest voice since Ella Fitzgerald. Ella herself cited Teri as her favourite singer during a 1963 Down Beat magazine interview. Despite being a favourite among both musicians and critics in the '60s, Thornton remains an obscure figure today.

On 'Lullaby of the Leaves' (aka 'Devil May Care'), her debut album, Teri is supported by an impressive line-up of jazz stars, including Clark Terry, Freddie Green, Earl Warren, and Wynton Kelly.
