Presented here are two rarely heard albums featuring the George Shearing Quintet plus Latin percussion, 'Latin Escapade' (Capitol Records T-737), featuring Toots Thielemans, and 'Mood Latino' (Capitol Records ST-1567). Four tracks that complete the sessions from the latter album have been added as a bonus.
Jazz pianist George Shearing passed away on February 14, 2011, at the age of 91. Although he was born blind to working class parents in England, he would come to prominence in the United States, where for many years he led a popular jazz group that recorded for MGM Records and Capitol Records. The composer of over 300 titles, he had multiple albums on the Billboard charts during the 1950s, 1960s, 1980s and 1990s.
