Guitarist and banjo player Ron Block's third solo album sees the Union Station star move skilfully across multiple genres of acoustic music, presenting his take on Scots-Irish balladry, Appalachian fiddle tunes, bluegrass romps, singer-songwriter narratives, and, for good measure, grooving newgrass.
Ron Block is probably most recognised as a member of Alison Krauss and Union Station. What is less known is that he is also a highly regarded songwriter with numerous songs appearing on Alison Krauss and Union Station releases. Other artists such as Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Clint Black, Brad Paisley and Bill Frisell have also recorded Ron's compositions. For 'Walking Song', Ron composed 11 of the 14 songs and enlisted the help of award winning poet Rebecca Reynolds for lyrics.
Also assisting Ron are Union Station mates Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski on backing vocals, Jerry Douglas on dobro and Barry Bales on bass. A host of other modern bluegrass players like Mike Compton and Sam Bush lend some mandolin paying, Stuart Duncan joins on fiddle and British singer Kate Rusby adds some harmonies.
