'The Coventry Suite', written by London-based American jazz saxophonist Frank Griffith, was commissioned for the 2002 Coventry Jazz Festival by organisers CV One and was premiered by Frank Griffith and his nine-strong band at Coventry University's Ellen Terry building.
The idea for a composition that borrowed themes from the city's past, including Lady Godiva and the Blitz, came from Coventry bandleader Don Mather. It features music written by city-born pianist Mike Kemp and Performing Arts chief Owen Dutton but also includes music by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and Bobbie Gentry. Sleeve notes are by John Dankworth.
Featured musicians include Henry Lowther, Gareth Lockrane, Bob Martin, Mick Foster, Tom Cawley and Trudy Kerr.
