Gunnar de Frumerie grew up in a musical family and appeared early on as a pianist and composer. He studied at the Stockholm Conservatory, then in Vienna with Emil von Sauer and finally at the Conservatoire de Paris with Alfred Cortot. Of his approximately 140 compositions, two-thirds contain important parts for his instrument, the piano, since he himself was a brilliant pianist. As a playful, humorous work, his Concertino was very well received by the public, and in his Clarinet Concerto, the song-like and dance-like thematic formations are striking, and the virtuoso solo part always stands as a beautiful, sharply contoured relief against the rich string section. Graceful, beautiful music that is worth listening to and pleasing!
