The name of the composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger (1867-1942) is familiar to every Swede. Often enough, however, knowledge about him is limited to the facts that he wrote idyllic piano miniatures and folk-influenced songs and was an extremely feared music critic. Yet his true ability is revealed in his great works - especially in the five symphonies. The music of the Suite op. 15 for violin and piano is a genuinely Swedish piece and more folkloristic than the violin sonata, which is reminiscent of Grieg. The composer had become more individual and self-confident and had developed a deeper feeling for idyllic lyricism. Surprises worth listening to - interpreted with commitment and beautiful tone by Wallin and Derwinger.
