Woody Shaw Quintet & Mulgrew Miller - Tokyo '81 (All Tracks Previously Unissued)

Elemental Music presents a complete previously unissued quintet performance in Japan by the great Woody Shaw. This remarkable concert features Shaw's classic group with trombonist Steve Turre, pianist Mulgrew Miller, bassist Stafford James and drummer Tony Reedus.

The album includes a 16-page booklet containing special essays by famed jazz producer Michael Cuscuna & by Shaw's son Woody Shaw III. It is presented simultaneously on vinyl and CD (the CD version contains an extra track from the Tokyo concert and a bonus track, both also previously unreleased). Its thoroughly enjoyable music from beginning to end as well as being a collector's trophy make this release a masterpiece as certified by the 5 stars awarded in Downbeat's October 2018 edition.
