Orchestra and Chorus of Italian Radio & Wilhelm Furtwangler - Wagner: Der Ring des Nibelungen

None of Wilhelm Furtw�ngler's Ring performances from Bayreuth or other places in Germany have survived as recordings. However three recordings do still exist, one from a performance in London and two recordings that were made in Italy. The first of these comes from a live performance at La Scala, Milan in 1950, and the second a 1953 radio production in Rome. It is the latter of these that is presented here in this bargain 13-CD set. Previously available in different packaging, this title is now released with new documentation in a clam style box that is a feature of the 'Documents' label sets.

For this recording the orchestra of the radio station was supported by musicians from other orchestras, and Furtw�ngler had more than a month available for rehearsals. The star casts include Ferdinand Frantz, Wolfgang Windgassen, Gottlob Frick, Hilde Konetzni, Martha M�dl, Ludwig Suthaus, Josef Greindl and Margarete Klose.
