The pianist Moura Lympany, born in Cornwall, England, thoroughly shook up the worldwide piano-scene in the 1950s. Critics attested her elegance and wit, praised her poetic touch and the varied qualities of her pianist barometer, whose scale ranged from velvety charm to burning fireworks. Technically, she was equally brilliant and knew every trick in the book. She was regarded as a Rachmaninoff specialist and was audibly able to handle his sometimes hasardeuric compositions, which demand almost everything from the player. 8222;I never was one for chichi phrasing or powdered rubatos, is how she characterized her style. Listening to the 12 original albums from 1951 to 1961 it is easy to understand why she became a musical legend. These are outstanding examples from the history of recorded music, excellent specimens of her interpretive art, which enabled her to meet any and every challenge. In addition to the highly acclaimed recordings of Chopin's 24 Prludes as well as other compositions for piano solo and Khatchaturian's D major concert, there are her recordings of the Rachmaninoff-Prludes, his 3rd Piano Concerto and the 2nd Piano Concerto of Saint- Sans (Martinon), all of which can always be found in the international listings of the best-ever-recordings of the respective repertoire. Bonus recordings with works by Brahms, Liszt, Litolff, Debussy, Chopin complete this acoustic portrait of this extraordinary artist.
