- 10 CDs with the best Klezmer Music and Yiddish Songs
- Classics and discoveries from benny Goodman to Giora Feidman
(and those are only the clarinet players!)
When I make music, I sing a song that is deep inside of me with the clarinet, says the world-famous clarinetist Giora Feidman, who can be seen on the cover of this box. The King of Klezmer, whose name has become synonymous with his music around the world, played an important part in igniting the Klezmer boom and furthering the stylistic diversity, which has been influencing the scene as world music since the 1970s.
In addition to Giora Feidman and his colleagues, the ensemble Massel Klezmorim around Lutz Elias Casell, which embarked on a musical journey through 2000 years of Jewish history with their ambitious project in 2005, can also be heard on this box-set. The German weekly DIE ZEIT unconditionally recommends the congenial interpretations of Jewish songs by Oksana Sowiak and her guitar accompanist Anton Stingl, who tell of grief and joy, longing and humor in their songs. The East West Inspirations of the trio around Felix Huber and Witek Kornacki are a jazzy amalgam of Klezmer, Jazz and classical music, ranging from original compositions or Jewish Folk songs to Chopin and Wieniawski. Jewish traditional music in recordings from the USA from 1910 to 1950 provide for the historical touch to this box.
