SISTER ROSETTA THARPE / THE GOSPEL TRUTH + SISTER ROSETTA THARPE [1960 eponymous LP] + 4 Bonus tracks
Although she never strayed too far from her gospel roots, the great Sister Rosetta Tharpe pioneered a sound that younger admirers, such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Elvis Presley, would mould into rock & roll. Tharpe was one of the few female electric guitarists of her day. She played the guitar not just to accompany herself but as a lead instrument, and she ornamented her songs with intricate and flashy R&B licks.
This release presents two of Sister Rosetta's finest LPs, which were cut during the zenith of her abilities: The Gospel Truth (1959), which was captured live in New York City, and the eponymous Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1960). Long unavailable on CD, both sensational albums have finally been remastered and packaged together in this special collector's edition, which also includes 4 bonus tracks from the same period. There's no better proof of Sister Rosetta's genius than these powerful and passionate recordings.
