Born on October 25, 1937 (he is 86 at this writing), Brazilian composer, record producer, guitarist, vocalist, and pioneer of bossa nova, Roberto Menescal is best known for his song 'O Barquinho' (Little Boat), as well as for his collaborations with Latin stars Carlos Lyra, Nara Leao, Wanda Sa, Ale Vanzella, to name just a few.

Menescal was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in 2002 for his work with his son's group Bossacucanovan, and in 2013 he received a coveted Latin Recording Academy Special Award for his contribution to the genre.
