'Portrait in Jazz', recorded on December 28, 1959, was Bill Evans' third album as a leader. It was also his first LP with the talented bassist Scott LaFaro. Their superb chemistry, along with that of drummer Paul Motian, is evident from the very first tune. Waltz for Debbie is an iconic piano trio album, and the most widely known of all his recordings.
