All existing recordings made by the great Coleman Hawkins at the Village Gate in 1962, originally issued on two different Verve LPs (Coleman Hawkins Alive! At the Village Gate Verve LP 9044 and Hawkins! Eldridge! Hodges! Alive! At the Village Gate! Verve V6-8504). While most of the music here presents Hawk in a quartet format backed by a trio led by Tommy Flanagan, the saxophonist is joined on three long tracks by fellow stars Roy Eldridge and Johnny Hodges. A complete live sextet set by Hawkins and Eldridge recorded in England in 1958, and appearing here on CD for the first time ever, has been added as a bonus. Includes 20-page booklet.
