Marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Max Reger, this album presents several notable works by the composer that remain relatively unknown: three orchestral songs and the 'Hebbel' Requiem. Scored for solo vocal, choral and orchestral forces, they are conceived on a large scale typical of the time, in contrast with Mahler's somewhat simpler Ruckert-Lieder that are also on the programme. Reger's Requiem displays parallels with Brahms' A German Requiem and was Reger's memorial to German soldiers killed in the war.
