A fascinating coupling of works by Johannes Brahms and Emanuel Moor (1863-1931). Emanuel Moor was a great admirer of Brahms, who took a considerable interest in the younger composer when they met in the late 1880s. Later championed by Pablo Casals, who declared him to be a true genius, one of the outstanding composers of the century, Moor wrote a considerable number of works for the cello, of which the Concerto for 2 cellos, written for Casals and Suggia in 1908, appears to have been one of the most successful - at the first performance in Moscow, they had to take no fewer than 6 curtain calls.
