Monty Alexander - My America

Reissue of 'My America' by pianist Monty Alexander, it was his fourth release for Telarc and was originally released in 2002. The album features not only Monty and the Goin Yard (reggae) group, but he is also joined by several guest vocalists including Freddy Cole, Kevin Mahogany and John Pizzarelli.

On 'My America' Monty Alexander pays tribute to the musical legends that inspired him as he grew up in Jamaica, as well as those who led him to come to love America and eventually make his home there. His early inspirations are represented by songs by Roy Rogers and Nat King Cole while more modern influences are acknowledged with compositions by Al Green, Marvin Gaye and even an eleven minute version of James Brown's Sex Machine all performed in Monty's jazz meets reggae style.
