Even though Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart may have later reluctantly remembered his time in the service of the Archbishop of Salzburg, he was, together with his father Leopold and Michael Haydn, a friend of the Mozart family, one of the formative characters of Salzburg's musical life.
The works recorded by the Capricornus Ensemble Stuttgart and Henning Wiegr�be show the playful, easy elegance that prevailed in Salzburg during the early classical period - especially in works with the participation of the shepherd's horn, a Salzburg specialty that Wiegr�be masters with virtuosity.
