In 1767, CPE Bach succeeded his godfather Georg Philipp Telemann as music director in Hamburg. Two years later, he delivered the St Matthew Passion H.782, the first of his annual Passion settings, which was long considered lost after the end of the war until the music archive of the Berlin Singakademie in Kiev was rediscovered in 1999.

This important key work was performed by Ton Koopman for the first time after its rediscovery in 2002 and is presented here on FRA BERNARDO in a rousing concert recording from the Minorite Church in Vienna.

Featuring soloists Deborah York, Franziska Gottwald, Jorg Durmuller, Klaus Mertens, Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Baroque Choir and Orchestra perform on this important recording.
