Pipe-Eye - Laugh About Life

Pipe-eye is the solo project from Cook Craig who also plays in and writes music for King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard & The Murlocs. Pipe-eye's debut album 'Laugh About Life' flows more like a play than an album, as five acts divide the songs into what feels like chapters of a book. Each act sets a definitive mood and serves as a segue into the songs that it precedes. Some of the tracks macabre and eccentric lyrics are accompanied by up-beat melodies and groovy jams which bop and twist in all musical directions covering multiple genres whilst still being grounded in pop sensibilities. In tracks such Some Are Bankers, Some Are Clerks and Sweets & Treats this is truly evident as the lyrics paint gloomy imagery over a cheerful tapestry presenting an underlying atmosphere of cynicism and satire to the listener. However there are some tracks which take a softer approach like the waltzy and more jazz inspired At The Garden Gate as well as the meandering kraut jam Walk The Dog. These tracks both adhere to a more relaxed vibe and bend away from the albums otherwise more rock orientated tracks
