Two years on from the release of the multi-platinum-selling Saturday Night Fever soundtrack album, Bee Gees were one of the biggest groups in the world. Having brought disco to the masses with the hits Stayin' Alive, Night Fever and How Deep Is Your Love, they kept the mirror ball spinning with 1979's Sprits Having Flown album and the global smash Tragedy.Broadcast in November that same year, Bee Gees' NBC TV special was a story-to-date for the group, featuring rare performance footage of early 60s singles Spick And Specks and Massachusetts, along with interview clips, behind-the-scenes footage of the band at work in the studio, and an informal jam with the country-music legends Willie Nelson and Glen Campbell.Topped off with in-concert performances taken from the group's 10 July 1979 show at Oakland Coliseum Arena, in Oakland, California, Broadcast Special 1979 captures Bee Gees flying high at the end of the decade they helped define.
