Carmen Souza - Port Ingles

Port'Ingles (English port) brings together musical stories about the special culture of the Cape Verde Islands and their inhabitants. Carmen Souza takes on these untold stories about the British past in Cape Verde and the long struggle for decolonization in her very own style. With jazz as a language and expression of freedom for all cultures, the singer moves in traditional rhythms such as funana, contradanca, morna or mazurka. Together with her musical partner Theo Pascal, Carmen Souza has been honing an unmistakable sound for more than two decades. Strongly influenced by jazz, a Creole musical language with a distinct Lusophone/Cape Verdean DNA emerges.
