The Variations and Fugue on a theme by Handel op. 24 in B flat major arguably represent, alongside his F minor Sonata op. 5, the most significant piano work by Brahms. Moreover, following the tradition of Johann Sebastian Bach (Gol dberg Variations) and Ludwig van Beethoven (Diabelli Variations), they are one of the most significant sets of variations in the keyboard repertoire, showing Brahms at the height of his brilliance. Annika Treutler grew up in Detmold and is now based in Berlin. She studied with Prof. Matthias Kirschnereit at the Rostock College of Music and Drama and Prof. Bernd Goetzke at the Hanover College of Music, Drama and Media. The young artist won third prize at the Montreal International Piano Competition in 2014 and reached the semifinals of the ARD International Music Competition in Munich that year.
