High quality reissue of Dexter Gordon's 1964 album for Blue Note, from Paris based label Heavenly Sweetness. The LP features high quality sound taken from the original master tapes, 180g vinyl, heavy cardboard sleeve and the original artwork.
'One Flight Up' was an unusual recording for Blue Note as it was recorded in Paris - where Gordon had recently emigrated to - not at Rudy Van Gelder's New Jersey studio. The band includes trumpeter Donald Byrd on two tracks, Art Taylor on drums and (then) local contemporaries Kenny Drew on piano, and Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass. The Allmusic review by Michael G. Nastos awarded the album 3 stars stating One Flight Up stands as a testament to Dexter Gordon's viability as a bandleader and teammate...It's a good listen to digest all the way through, especially if you are as patient as the performers, who have a lot to say.
Personnel: Dexter Gordon (tenor saxophone), Donald Byrd (trumpet), Kenny Drew (piano), Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen (bass), Art Taylor (drums)
