One of the great entertainers of the 20th Century, Cab Calloway was a household name by the early 1930s and although he had peaked commercially by the end of the '40s he never really declined in fame, continuing to perform throughout the rest of his career, including a memorable appearance in the 1980 movie 'The Blues Brothers'. A talented jazz singer and a superior scatter, his gyrations, outrageous zoot suits and showmanship sometimes overshadowed the quality of his always excellent bands. Following on from JSP's first volume of Calloway recordings 1930-1934, this equally reet-o-roonie 4-CD box set covers 1935-1940 including many more of his classic cuts like Miss Otis Regrets, Manhattan Jam, The Conga-Conga and (Hep-Hep) The Jumpin' Jive, featuring top notch sidemen such as Chu Berry, Dizzy Gillespie and Ben Webster.
