Leading Scottish singer makes her first album of Traditional songs.Wendy Weatherby has an enviable reputation in Scotland for singing and playing cello with various folk bands for many years as well as being a session musician on recordings. One highlight of her early career was performing in Billy Jackson's (of the band, Ossian ) 'Wellpark Suite' in 1985 which helped raise awareness of the cello's role in Scottish music both historically and as a new asset. Since then, she has two solo albums to her credit - 'A Breath on the Cold Glass' and 'Two Loves'. Her session career has found her in demand as both a cellist and singer on recordings and in performance with many top names in numerous styles - Phil Cunningham, Dick Gaughan, Lester Simpson, Blair Douglas, Ian Walker, Bram Taylor, Ken Campbell, The Pearlfishers, Savourna Stevenson, James Graham etc. She combines performing with being a tutor in traditional music at the RSAMD, Newcastle University and at the National Centre for Excellence in Plockton.As a performer in theatre, she has appeared in Bill Bryden's 'The Ship' and 'The Big Picnic' (which featured music by John Tams), Wildcat Theatre's ,' The Jolly Beggars',and Wee Stories award winning 'Arthur, The Story of A King', amongst others.She has written music for numerous films and theatre productions, and has had two major commissions for Celtic Connections - 'Daybreak on the World's Edge', and 'A Scots Quair'Despite a long and varied career this is the first time Wendy has devoted an album to mainly traditional songs. The new CD puts her back in the spotlight as one of the best singers in Scotland.
