The oeuvre of Philippe de Monte (1521-1603), a famous 16th-century composer and Kapellmeister to the Habsburg emperors Maximilian II and Rudolf II, includes over 800 Italian madrigals, French songs, some 40 masses and 250 motets.
The present recording is dedicated to the sacred madrigal, which Monte contributed to popularizing.
The interpretation by the outstanding singers of the Cappella Mariana allows us to grasp all the artistry and absolute beauty of these musical gems from the late 16th century.
