Modern jazz drummer Victor Lewis has always been known as a masterful player, but on this CD, he also shows he is a fine composer -- he wrote six of the nine cuts. Featuring an incredible band made up of bassist Christian McBride, pianist Ed Simon, tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake, and trumpeter Eddie Henderson, the music is modern post-bop mainstream and extraordinarily hip and tuneful.
There are pieces that stand on their own as potential classics, including Lewis' Hey, It's Me You're Talkin' To and Between Two Worlds both featuring Eddie Henderson, and both upbeat boppers in the mould of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.
