Part of the international music scene for almost two decades, Haidouti Orkestar - a lively band of musicians from Turkey, France, Romania, and Serbia - continue to mix cultures.
This their fifth album, Yuh Yuh is also the title of the opening track. Some will think that these two syllables express joy, but make no mistake, it is a cry of vengeance! The song highlights the iniquity of a certain political regime that crushes its people, steals, deceives, manipulates, and shamelessly lies. It is an album full of contrasts, including an eclectic repertoire where traditional melodies rub shoulders with contemporary rock and funk grooves. This is very much like the closing track 'Harf'yle,' the last song of the album, featuring singer Zeki Ayad Colas, whose inspiration finds its roots in the Alevi culture.
The album is therefore like a complicated musical jigsaw, coming together beautifully with eleven songs taking us on an incredible cultural journey where joy, melancholy, anger, and hope merge in equal measure, in tune with todays' turbulent times.
