Georgie Fame - Charlestons

'Charlestons' from 1960's survivor George Fame is a collection of his own compositions plus covers of songs ranging from Teach 'n' Preach by Johnny Burch, Andy Fairweather-Low's Wide Eyed And Legless, through to James P. Johnson's The Charleston. Of Fame's own compositions, there's a humorous ditty dedicated to Terry Wogan titled Wogan's Air, and a '60s nostalgia trip to Soho's legendary Flamingo club with the song Flamingo All-Nighter.

On board are Georgie Fame's regular band members Guy Barker, Alan Skidmore, Anthony Kerr, and sons Tristan and James Powell, plus special guests Nick Payne on tenor and baritone saxes, Ralph Salmins on percussion, and '60s mates Zoot Money and Madeline Bell. The album is a mix of jazz and blues that in part tips its hat to Paul Robeson (Flamingo All-Nighter), and James P. Johnson whose Charleston rhythmic phrase runs through most of the songs here.
