180g audiophile double vinyl reissue of saxophonist Pharoah Sanders' 1982 LP 'Live', featuring Walter Booker, Idris Muhammed and John Hicks, with re-mastering by Cicely Baston at Alchemy/Air Mastering. Includes the bonus track Doktor Pitt, which is not on the original vinyl release. This album features Pharoah Sanders playing some no-nonsense tenor in a quartet with pianist John Hicks, bassist Walter Booker, and drummer Idris Muhammad. Sanders performs It's Easy to Remember (in a style very reminiscent of early-'60s John Coltrane), an original blues, and two of his compositions, including the passionate You've Got to Have Freedom. The musicianship is at a high level and, although Sanders does not shriek as much as one might hope (the Trane-ish influence was particularly strong during this relatively mellow period), he is in fine form. - by Scott Yanow, AllMusic

Press:

This is a glorious, jubilant performance that reminds us that Sanders was at his most effective communicator when he had an audience, like a righteous preacher feeling the spirit with the faithful. - Kevin Le Gendre, Jazzwise

Another important set of material from the archive recordings of Pharaoh Sanders. - UK Vibe

Kudos to Pure Pleasure Records for releasing this update vinyl of Pharaoh Sanders - Live. The sound mix is balanced with great stereo separation. The performance shines a light on a bona fidelity jazz legend! - Robbie Gerson, Audiophile Audition
