Trumpeter Bruce Adams is an established figure on the UK jazz scene. He took up trumpet in Glasgow at the age of 11 in 1962, and 4 years later in 1966, having been sponsored by Nat Gonella, he turned professional. For the next decade or so, Bruce played clubs, theatres, and cruise liners, and then based himself in Glasgow, playing with visiting American musicians including Benny Carter, Ray Bryant and Scott Hamilton. In 1993, Bruce co-led an award-winning quintet with Alan Barnes, and they recorded two albums together, both of which received critical acclaim. Bruce, equally proficient on flugelhorn, is now first call for a number of UK big bands, as well as a sideman for many of the UK's leading small groups including a quintet with his old sparring partner - Alan Barnes. Bruce has led his own quartet for a number of years now and the current line-up features Dave Cliff on guitar. The eleven tracks of this new studio recording provides over 60 minutes of wonderful swinging, yet sensitive melodic jazz. From the haunting melody of 'Always & Forever' penned by Pat Metheny to the classic Clark Terry original 'Ode To A Flugelhorn', the total programme provides an album of wonderful playing from four of the UK's leading exponents of all that's good in jazz. Personnel: Bruce Adams (trumpet & flugelhorn), Dave Cliff (guitar), Leon Clayton (bass), Ralph Salmins (drums)
