Alan Barnes, Scott Hamilton & David Newton Trio - Zootcase

Alan Barnes, saxophonist and winner of the Best Instrumentalist category in the July 2006 BBC Jazz Awards, meets up with American tenor saxophone giant Scott Hamilton for a straight ahead, free-wheeling session.Barnes has been described as Britain's leading mainstreamer and Hamilton is universally acknowledged to be at the very forefront of the kind of tenor playing that takes its vocabulary from Lester Young, Zoot Sims and Ben Webster. Inspired by the superb trio of David Newton, the two horn players strike sparks off each other as they get down to some real swinging on material from Duke Ellington, Coleman Hawkins and Zoot Sims, as well as interpreting some classic ballads.
