From San Antonio, accordionist, singer and bajo sexto player Fred Zimmerle (1931-1998) was deeply steeped in the regional Mexican music of south Texas and he greatly respected, honoured and admired the older players' music and songs. Many of the 22 songs on this disc, recorded at Fred's home in May 1974, are from the repertoire of legendary San Antonio recording artists, Los Hermanos Chavarria. On the recordings Fred's alternate second voice and bajo sexto player was Steve Jaramillo, who blended splendidly with Fred's lead. Also present were bajo sexto player and singer Andres Berlanga, who began his musical career during the Great Depression of the 1930s, and string bassist Juan Viesca, who played his 'bull fiddle' in a truly powerhouse, rockabilly style.
