'Come Back to Me Love', showcases Freda Payne's powerful voice backed by a sophisticated big band. She performs a mixture of standards and originals with arrangements by her frequent collaborator, Grammy-winner Bill Cunliffe.
Freda Payne burst onto the collective pop consciousness in 1970 with the hit single, Band of Gold and then with the anthemic message single, Bring the Boys Home. While she is well known for those iconic songs, she is also a jazz singer of renown. She sang and toured with the Quincy Jones Big Band and remembers once being summoned to meet Miles Davis at Harlem's famed Apollo Theatre. Her debut LP 'After The Lights Go Down Low' was released on legendary jazz label Impulse! in 1964. In more recent years she performed as Ella Fitzgerald in the theatrical biopic Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song.
The big band on 'Come Back to Me Love' includes Bill Cunliffe on piano and synth, Pete Christlieb and Bob Sheppard on saxophone and Joe LaBarbera on drums.
