Reissue of an acclaimed 1994 trio album led by pianist Steve Plews and featuring Jeff Clyne on double bass and Trevor Tomkins on drums.
The original Steve Plews Trio came together in 1994 as a result of Steve winning the Peter Whittingham Award for composition. They recorded the CD 'Secret Spaces' for Peter's own ASC Records, and the album has enjoyed a renaissance of interest in Japan and the Far East in more recent years. The trio later became a quartet with guitarist Mike Walker for the album 'Anywhere'.
Personnel: Steve Plews (piano), Jeff Clyne (double bass), Trevor Tomkins (drums)
A primary influence on Mr. Plews would seem to be the early Bill Evans trio from 1961 but he is expanding the format with his own idiosyncratic methods of writing and performing. - Jazz Journal
