Gilles Naturel - Contrapuntic Jazz Band

This is the first album by Gilles Naturel's Contrapuntic Jazz Band. This fine and original sounding recording attests to the bassists talent as an arranger and reflects his interest in 16th century counterpoint with a flavour of West Coast Jazz. Liner note writer Benny Golson hails Naturel's musicianship and exceptional bass playing in a unique sextet context, which includes drummer Nasheet Waits.Of the album's twelve tracks, eight are original compositions by Naturel and are contrasted by distinctive takes on Duke Ellington's Mount Harissa and, appropriately, Charlie Parker's fugal Ah Leu Cha.
