From the sparse, minimalist piano intro of 'No News,' to the delicate acoustic backing of 'Portrait,' the pounding drums and harmonies of 'Islander' and the dreamy electronic glitches of 'Love Somebody,' Robyn Sherwell is an album that encompasses many musical styles, but one that always maintains and showcases Robyn's incredibly soulful vocal performance. Inspired by artists as far ranging as James Blake, Imogen Heap, Sia and Stevie Nicks, Robyn Sherwell is a name that has been on the lips of tastemakers since 2014, when a string of YouTube covers - including Ben Howard's 'The Fear' and SBTRKT's 'Hold On' - came to people's attention.Since signing to Birdland Records, she released two EPs, Love Somebody and Islander, as well as the singles 'Pale Lung' and 'Low.' The title track of the Love Somebody EP went on to receive support from Lauren Laverne at 6Music and XFM, whilst the track 'Islander' was made BBC Introducing Pick of the Week by Huw Stephens at Radio 1. Her single 'Pale Lung' also went on to receive support from Huw Stephens as well as Jo Whiley at Radio 2, who invited Robyn to record a session for her.In June 2015 Robyn's stripped back cover of Fleetwood Mac's 1975 classic 'Landslide' (from the aforementioned Islander EP and set to be included on the album) was chosen as the soundtrack to the trailer for the new film Suffragette, starring Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter. Robyn is set to release her brand new single 'My Hand' on Friday 18th March. The single, taken from her self-titled debut album, follows previous singles 'Low' and 'Pale Lung,' plus the EPs Islander and Love Somebody.Produced by David Kosten, 'My Hand' is the perfect showcase for Robyn's soulful vocals, set over a backing of pounding drums, shimmering guitars and atmospheric beats and electronics.
