A high energy Latin Jazz concert from legendary percussionist Pete Escovedo and his band. 'Live from Stern Grove Festival' was recorded as part of the San Francisco festival's 75th anniversary. It features an 11 piece band with guest appearances by Arturo Sandoval on trumpet, Ray Obiedo on guitar, Dave Koz on saxophone and Sheila E. on congas and vocals.
The project was actually put together and co-produced by Sheila E. who many may not know is Pete's daughter. Keeping this a family affair are sons Juan and Peter on percussion and drums. Highlights include the set opener Tito Puente's Picadillo Jam, a blistering rendition of Pete's own Dance, which has the crowd up on its feet, Solo Tu and Suenos de los Torreros, which rounds out the album and includes Arturo on trumpet. In addition to his love of music, which he has been involved with for more than five decades, Pete Escovedo is also an accomplished painter. It is one of his works that makes up the cover for the CD.
