The David Liebman Trio - Lieb Plays the Blues a la Trane

This is the latest CD from one of today's leading saxophonists and focuses on the music of one of his major influences, John Coltrane. With a few exceptions David Liebman has largely avoided covering Coltrane tunes in recent times so his fresh take on the repertoire is all the more memorable for this. Of additional interest is that it's an all blues programme including three of Trane's own compositions together with one each by Miles Davis and Duke Ellington.Liebman has enjoyed memorable playing stints with Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Chick Corea and more recently as part of the Saxophone Summit with Joe Lovano and the late Michael Brecker.
