Umoza - Tumbuka Voices

UMOZA (togetherness) is a school for street children in Northern Malawi, a country where 49% of children under 5 are chronically malnourished and HIV leaves many children orphaned. UMOZA offers vital hope and opportunity - a chance for young people to create something sustainable and worthy in their lives through identification with their culture and self-expression through drama, song and dance.This charity project is the brainchild of Irish music producer John Dunford, who sponsors the school, music teachers and workshops. Bringing in the collaborative talents of multi-platinum selling Irish artist, Sharon Shannon, and world music legend, Justin Adams, to add to UMOZA's repertoire of music and song both traditional and original, John has created a CD of UMOZA�s music called Tumbuka Voices. UMOZA have recently interpreted Beyond The Eye, a poem given to John in late 2011 by the newly elected president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, in recognition of his work. A video is to be made and returned to the president - a real honour for the charity and all involved.
