T for Texas, T for Tennessee sang Jimmie Rodgers in 1928, setting the seal on two of the most important states involved in the growth of Country music in the years thereafter. By extension, the development of country Rock 'n' Roll - rockabilly - in the early and mid 1950s was strongest in those areas, but Memphis-based Sun Records blazed brightly early in the game, casting the exciting Cat Music of the Lone Star State in a deep shadow.
