Will Collier Septet - Everybody Loves
Catalogue No: FIRECD21
Barcode: 5060092192101
The Will Collier septet was born back in 2004 out of Collier's early excercises in four part horn writing and from house mates Collier, Reynolds, Somers and Auckland's regular jams at their infamous Haringey jazz house which was also home to British jazz star Gwylim Simcock and BBC jazz innovation award winner James Allsop. The composing style has evolved over the last four years, now incorporating contrapuntal horn writing textures and counterpoint, introducing odd time signatures and often modern dance grooves and folk type melodic themes. And the band, having played extensively in London at venues such as Ronnie Scotts, The Jazz Caf and The Vortex, have honed their tight, spontaneous band feel.In 2006 they were discovered by British jazz luminary Seb Rochford on MySpace. Seb recommended the septet to the F-IRE record label and during the coming year they recorded an album that F-IRE were keen to release. Hailed as A beautiful work by jazz legend Kenny Wheeler, their debut album is eagerly anticipated. Wheeler also refers to Collier as a fine composer while British composer Colin Towns cites the album as A forward looking vision of music. The band features Will Collier (double bass), Ben Reynolds (drums), Joe Auckland (trumpet), Ben Somers (tenor sax), Mike Lesirge (alto sax), Bob Dowell (trombone) and Ed Sheldrake (piano).
