Rhythms Of The City is the beating heart of London's award winning creative jazz community, the F-IRE Collective. The cream of their 70-piece bateria (carnival samba percussion section) is captured here in the studio (as a 15 piece) presenting a fresh mix of the expected and unexpected funked-up, carnival style. Songs in English, Spanish and Portuguese.Rhythms of the City began in London in 1999, growing out of the Akwaaba drum orchestra, one of the first community projects of the F-IRE Collective. It adopted Brazilian carnival music as a practical way of having one music in which a large number of people could learn, participate and play alongside one another and the shared experience was in part used to bind the forming creative F-IRE community. This album is a studio recording of music that ROTC took live to performances from 2005-2007. Inspired to make a closer connection to the mixed population of London, they started performing more music that was not originally played on Brazilian instruments... ROTC is joined on the album by some of the many of the friends made on the journey.Top samba percussion group in the UK featuring godfather of UK samba Bosco deOliveira, brit-hop sensation MYSTRO, Australian salsa aces SON VENENO / Unique mix of styles including hiphop, funk, salsa, forro, samba and reggae / The most tasteful and interesting Carnival CD ever!
