Nicolai Dunger returns to music after a 5 year hiatus with a stunning long player, reminiscent of early Van Morrison, a strong return to the more rootsy, swinging, honest and simple foundation of his music.Nicolai Dunger's reputation as one of Sweden's most prolific but possibly most understated musical exports has been burning for near on fifteen years. Set for a May 10th release, 'Play' is the sixteenth album of an impressive career that has seen him work with pop/rock notoriety such as Will Bonnie 'Prince' Billy Oldham, Mercury Rev, Calexico, The Soundtrack of Our Lives and a few releases under some unusual pseudonyms.'Play' is a return to the more rootsy, swinging and honest foundations of Nicolai's music, perhaps a nod back to the beautiful and sparse recordings he made with Will Oldham and his brother in their topsy-turvey cabin in Louisville, Kentucky. Recorded in just a few days in the Arctic circle summer house of Mats Schubert (Bo Kaspers Orkerster) with guest vocals from Nina Persson (The Cardigans, A Camp), on the ballad of 'Tears in a Childs Eye', and with an emphasis on simplicity and groove.This album is quite possibly Nicolai's most focused effort to date, infectiously speaking to your senses in a manner that has come to be Nicolai's trademark over the years. The lead single 'Crazy Train' encapsulates the effortless feel of a timeless classic pop standard.
