Lingling Yu & Guo Gan - Yue Luo

Lingling Yu and Guo Gan, virtuoso performers on the traditional Chinese musical instruments, the pipa and the erhu present a programme of Chinese classical music in the Jiangnan sizhu style.Among the traditional Chinese musical instruments, the pipa and the erhu are probably the most renowned both in China and abroad. The pipa is a stringed instrument that belongs to the family of lutes. Often described as the Chinese 'violin', the erhu belongs to the fiddle family. Both instruments have large solo repertoires.Lingling Yu, a virtuoso pipa player, was born in the city of Hangzhou, in the south-east of China. After studying and performing in China she is now resident in Europe where she has been explore the links between western and eastern music. Guo Gan was born in Shenyang in northern China and he comes from a family of musicians. Playing and recording with the likes of composer Gabriel Yared, and jazz violinist Didier Lockwood he has become the ambassador of the erhu in Europe. Personnel: Lingling Yu (pipa), Guo Gan (erhu)
