Melech Mechaya - Melech Mechaya

The Portuguese band Melech Mechaya present a contemporary take on klezmer, mixing traditional rhythms with fado and other modern influences. They are joined by two special guests, the Fado singer Misia and trumpeter Frank London, leader of the Klezmatics.The band performs five creatively rearranged traditional klezmer songs, including 'Doina' from the legendary klezmer clarinetist Dave Tarras. Alongside these are original compositions that showcase their highly inventive sound that pushes modern klezmer to new extremes. These songs with their vibrant melodies and mesmerizing grooves, draw on Fado and Tango, folk, jazz, the work of John Zorn's Masada and Goran Bregovic. All this with an acoustic formation of clarinet, violin, guitar, double bass and percussion.
