Various Artists - Poetry & Music Of Ashiqs

This album contains recordings of various outstanding Ashiqs, mainly from Azerbaijan but also from Iran and Georgia. Along with mugham, Ashiq poetry and music, handed down from generation to generation, constitute the major part of the oral music heritage of Azerbaijani culture.

Ashiqs are the storytellers, the folk poets and singers who narrate the daily life of the people as well as legendary epics. Ashiqs can be a composer, a poet, a singer, a musician and at the same time a performer who plays the saz, a stringed musical instrument.
