Ten years in the making, 'Where Were Ye All?' is the result of a commission given to Norwegian musician Terj Johannesen to compose the score for a theatrical production about the lives and writings of British sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bront, who wrote such literary classics as 'Wuthering Heights', 'Jane' Eyre and 'Villette'.
The sisters were also prolific poets and it was from this side of their work that Johannesen found so fascinating and inspiring. The results of that inspiration are now heard on this CD featuring eleven of the Bront's poems set to Johannesen's original and imaginative music. Marked by stark musical contrasts, nineteenth-century poems and modern orchestral pop-electronica with gentle, sensitive passages that flow into beautiful harmonies played on acoustic instruments, this album is content rich, emotionally catchy and art-pop at its best.
The CD liner notes are by leading broadcaster and journalist Fiona Talkington (BBC Radio 3).
