'Lux', singer Unni Lvlid's first release in five years, is fearless, challenging and completely engaging. She is one of Norway's most high profile folk and contemporary music performers.
Like her previous highly praised album, 'Rite', which comprised of self-composed songs set in a landscape of experimental electronica, 'Lux' follows a similar route, but with material drawn from religious folk songs presented in an extraterrestrial like soundscape provided by the duo Draup who play on glass. The music is an exploration of dark and powerful religious folk songs with text that revolves around humble people, death and hope. Lvlid has performed works by contemporary composers such as Arne Nordheim, rjan Matre and Maja Ratkje, and has collaborated on concerts with the noise duo, Fe-Mail.
Lvlid's voice is pure and direct, completely at ease with all the changing moods. - Fiona Talkington, BBC Radio 3
